The Frock Swap, taking place on August 6th, in the Sears Gallery at Elgin Academy, will offer swappers and shoppers a night of good feelings. Shoppers will feel good when they leave with a brand new outfit, clothing donators will be glad they are putting fashionable unwanted garments to good use, but the greatest sense of fulfillment will come knowing that the $10 dollar entry fee will be going towards helping the Community Crisis Center of Elgin.
The Community Crisis Center is a non-profit organization that provides help to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Community Crisis Center helps these individuals by offering a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, counseling and transitional housing. The Crisis Center is the only agency to provide 24 hour, round the clock assistance in the greater Elgin area. In the year 2008 alone the Community Crisis Center Staff offered its services to over 6,000 individuals suffering from domestic violence, sexual assault, or turbulent economic circumstances. The Crisis Center provided emergency shelter services to over 550 women and children who were victims of domestic violence in 2008.
Almost all the services offered by the Community Crisis Center are provided for free of charge to the individuals and families seeking assistance. Recent State budget cuts have forced a reduction in shelter capacity and the Crisis Center’s staff’s ability to quickly respond to requests for services. Through fund raising efforts, such as the Frock Swap, The Community Crisis Center will be able to stay open to provide vital services to the vulnerable victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
On August 6th make an appearance at the Frock Swap at the Sears Gallery at Elgin Academy and take part in an exciting evening of swapping, shopping, and socializing. Remember all proceeds from the $10 entrance fee will be donated to the Community Crisis Center of Elgin. It’s an evening that will be sure to result in you looking good and feeling good.
